Simple (wannabe) Scandinavian Christmas

I have only been to Denmark once. I was there for a little under one week (many years ago), where I spent most of my days in bed fighting a terrible bug. But the snapshots I’ve stored in my mind from the countryside, the people, and the markets, have remained permanently ingrained on my soul.

I love the simple lines, the touches of colour and monochromatic schemes, and the inviting yet not overly modern details.

Over the years, I have gathered a few “classic” Scandinavian Christmas décor pieces from German Christmas markets and Ikea – not to mention the gifts my European family sends to me as they know my Nordic obsession.  As not everyone will make it to Denmark or German Christmas markets, Ikea is a prime location to find Christmas décor on a budget, and it is wonderfully Scandinavian!

(Ikea is also great for unique Christmas gifts for kids. Seriously. If you have no idea what to get your nephew or niece, this is the place to go!)

Here are few of my favourite Christmas pieces:

  1. Star light
  2. Lanterns
  3. A lightly decorated Christmas tree (I will string popcorn on the tree once Christmas holidays begin!)
  4. Advent candles on the dining room table (Ikea)
  5. Simple wooden garland (Homesense)
  6. All things red and white
