Last pregnancy, I would describe my style as: ugly, awful, hobo-ish and minimal. This wasn’t necessarily all my fault, I do blame Canada as a whole for my fashion faux-pas, as there are very few maternity stores to choose from. But a few things have changed since my last pregnancy: H&M maternity has expanded (if only a little), Gap maternity now exists in Canada, and I finally jumped on the Zulily.com train!

I should not forget to mention the impact of social media exposing some great and affordable non-maternity trends that accommodate pregnancy. Style-wise, I never quite felt like myself when I was expecting my first. It seemed like maternity wear was all “old mom” clothes and that I couldn’t find prints, designs and colours that would suit me pregnant or otherwise. There were a few shops that had some designer maternity clothes, but spending that much on clothing just didn’t resonate with me.

Let me introduce to you my Madeleine Maternity dress courtesy of Zuliliy.com. I love the stripes, the quality (the fabric is structured and heavy) and the cut. The dress hits just above the knee so that when I bend over, it ACTUALLY still covers my bum. The neckline is conservative to compared to most maternity dresses and flattering. The only thing I would mention would be: size up. I bought a small in this dress and it is great for now, but I don’t like things too tight on my stomach. I think I should have ordered this dress in a medium in order for it to last my entire pregnancy!

As my body changes and rearranges itself, I am glad to say I feel much more at home with myself this pregnancy simply by being able to wear things I would wear even if I weren’t pregnant. I will also say, my wardrobe is still quite minimal, but I actually like the items in my closet enough to rotate through them!!
