WHY I QUIT THE GYM

Now hold your horses. This title can be very deceiving. So let me explain. I’ve put the gym on hold for the summer. Like seasons of the year, we go through seasons of life and I feel like summer is a natural time to let go of certain routines and seize other opportunities. Moreover, this season of life with a nine-month-old baby and a soon to be three-year-old, sleep is still king when it comes to our schedule. Little Babe still has a morning nap and without it, there is just.so.much.whining. And whining, dear friends, is my kryptonite.

I’ve been dreading the gym lately. I’m tired. I hate the whines. It’s nice outside. I don’t need to lose weight. So why the heck am I going? I don’t know.  It just became routine. But it started feeling like pressure and another tick off my to-do list.

Normally, I go to the gym to sweat out anxiety or frustration. I also love the ladies in my fitness classes and working out with my neighbour. Kid free time with adults is such a luxury! However, the allure has faded and summer has stolen my heart and traded my sneakers for flip-flops.

Time to simplify once again. Do you notice a theme on my blog?

“You can do anything, but you can’t do everything.”

Time is currency. I’m going to spend it wisely this summer. Or, wisely-ish. There is also great benefit in wasting time. Don’t worry about my health, I’ll still stay active by:

  •  walking to the lake/park/Planet Organic
  • jogging in the early mornings or later evenings
  • hiking on the weekends
  • exploring the zoo
  • playing in the back yard
  • chasing after my kids
  • riding my bike (especially to Original Joe’s with my mom posse)

How are you tossing your to-dos to the wind this summer?

Fantastic post, Dallas! With a new baby coming just around the corner this was a good reminder to lighten our load this summer.

It’s hard to do, isn’t it? We usually fill up all of our free time.
