I love hearing about other people’s memorable gifts. My ideas might not be right for you, but I love sharing tried and true items in our home. We don’t do extravagant gifts, in our past life, most extravagance was spent on travel to people and places we loved. Experiences vs. large “things”. Nothing is wrong with “things”, but it will clarify why some of our faves look different. I’ve also included a “stock up” section and “wish list” section for bigger items.
I know many families shop by an outline of “want, need, wear, read”. To clarify: something from a wish list, something the person might need, something to wear and a book to read. I think this is great tool to bring focus, help with expectation management, and also helps easily define a budget. I like clarity and targets!
Kids gift ideas:
- Maileg mice in boxes or suitcases
- Doll house – My girls LOVED their doll house. It was nothing fancy but very loved and they would probably still use it now if it weren’t still holed up in Canada.
- Duplo / Lego – My kids have always loved Duplo and Lego and mixing and matching them into their own creations and villages.
- Foldable wagon – Legit life saver. I didn’t need it with the girls, but they play with outside all the time as a chariot and I use it often when Pete is unwell to walk him in the sunshine and fresh air.
- Calico critters – One of my TOP sellers for the kids. ALL of the kids love using the Critters. More so the girls than Pete, but he loves having his own “Dad” to join in on the play.
- Play kitchen – Our Ikea kitchen from ages 1-6 was used on the daily. Slowly missing the days of the younger years and the delight of their play creations!
- Books – check out “RightBooksForKids“. We love stocking up on books. This “I am – ordinary people who changed the world” series has been really fun to go through (you still need to scan through some of the Biographies) but generally very intriguing ! The Action Bible, Little Pilgrim’s Progress, Helen Keller, the Nutcracker…. all books we love.
- Adventures in Odyssey audio books – we LOVE the truth chronicles
- Cross necklace / Heart locket
- House coats and slippers
- Costumes – Little House on the Prairie, Firefighter, medieval costumes boy and girl (like Narnia), items for Tickle trunk from thrift shops
- Shovels, racks, wheel barrow and buckets
- Games -Jenga, Sorry, Spot it, card games
- Flash lights – it doesn’t matter how big or how small. Flash lights are ALWAYS a hit. Book reading lights and Bike lights, too!
